Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-01-01
The short version: we don't sell your data, and there's no account to sign up for.
1. Information we don't collect
- No account. There is no registration, so we never ask for your name, email address, or phone number.
- No advertising or data brokers. We do not use advertising networks, sell your data, or fingerprint you across sites.
- No sign-up or identity data. We only use your browser's localStorage to remember a random session id and your chat preferences (mode and interests).
2. Information we process (and why)
To operate the service we briefly process:
- A random session id generated in your browser, used to keep your block list consistent across reconnects.
- Messages you send during a chat, kept in memory for the lifetime of the room so your partner can see them, then discarded. Rooms idle too long are cleaned up automatically.
- Interest tags you choose, used only to find a compatible match.
- Your IP address in memory for rate limiting and abuse prevention. Logs do not link IPs to chat content.
- Anonymous usage analytics. We use privacy-respecting analytics (Microsoft Clarity) plus our own aggregate analytics to understand how the site is used and improve it. Only neutral event names and metadata are sent — never message text, files, room codes, passwords, or personally identifying information — and sessions are kept anonymous. Our analytics store page views, visit counts, and aggregate chat events (e.g. "match found", "video chat started"), never the content of your conversations. Aggregates include coarse visitor-journey steps (content page → chat → match → conversation → exit), retention cohorts (visitors who return within 1/7/30 days), peak-usage hours and days, and per-device chat success — all counted in bulk, with no message content, IPs, room codes, or identities stored. Optional organic-search (Google Search Console) data is imported by site administrators only and is never collected from your device. You can revoke analytics consent in the chat settings or using the toggle below.
- Report logs (reason, note, and the recent chat history of the reported conversation) when you or someone you chat with files a report. These are kept to investigate abuse and are never shared publicly.
3. Video chat
Video and audio calls use WebRTC and travel directly between you and your chat partner (peer to peer). Your camera and microphone feeds are never transmitted through or stored on our servers. We only relay a small signaling message to help you connect.
4. Children
Stranger Chat is not directed at children under 13. Users under 18 are strongly advised not to use video chat and should never share personal information.
5. Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties. Anonymous analytics events are sent to Microsoft Clarity and to our own aggregate analytics store so we can understand usage; no message content or identity information is included. Organic-search data shown in our admin reports (e.g. Google Search Console) is imported by site administrators from their own accounts and is never collected from visitors. Report data may be shared with law enforcement if required by law.
5.1 Opting out of analytics
You can disable both Microsoft Clarity and our aggregate analytics at any time. This sets a flag in your browser for this site only — no analytics events will be sent from this device until you re-enable it.
This control is stored in your browser only and does not apply to other devices.
6. Data retention
Chat messages and room state live only in memory and are removed when the room closes or times out. Analytics are stored as aggregate counters and daily breakdowns for a bounded retention period and are then automatically deleted. When a report is filed, the recent conversation is retained with the moderation report for as long as needed for safety purposes.
7. Your rights
Because we store almost nothing, there's little to delete. To clear your browser-local session id and preferences, clear your browser's site data for this domain. To opt out of analytics, use the toggle above. To request removal of a report record, contact us.
8. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
